Submit Manuscript | http://medcraveonline.com non-rice crops in a rotation such as wheat. Therefore, puddling for rice transplanting should be avoided as it has adverse effects on the succeeding upland crops. Unpuddled transplanting is an alternative method for rice establishment which can be adopted to overcome these problems and also to reduce cost of rice production. For this system, the land is made ready for transplanting by one pass strip tillage (or without tillage) followed by inundation of the land for 48 hours to make the land sufficiently soft for transplanting. Several reports reveal that rice cultivated in unpuddled transplanted system gives similar or higher yield compared with puddled transplanted crop. The seedlings transplanted in unpuddled soil can avoid adverse effect of short-term intense drought where rice seedlings in the puddled field, generally dies due to soil shrinkage and creation of cracks. Despite these advantages, the adoption of unpuddle transplanting system is highly constrained as the crop faces severe weed infestation. Rice yield may drastically be declined in unpuddled system if weed management is not done properly. On the other hand, the weed problem is not a serious issue in case of puddled transplanted crop as puddling of soil destroys weeds just before transplanting.

The Feasibility Study of Utilizing Common Herbicides of Transplanted Rice for Direct Wet-Seeding of Hashemi Cultivar
To investigate some common herbicides of transplanted rice for direct wet-seeding of Hashemi cultivar, this study was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were as follow: (i) recommended dose of pretilachlor, (ii) oxadiargyl + bensulfuron-methyl, (iii-vi) adding propanil or thiobencarb to treatment (i) and (ii), (vii-x) adding cinosulfuron to treat...
متن کاملCrop Establishment, tillage and Water Management Technologies on Crop and Water Productivity in Rice-wheat Cropping System of North West India
Rice receives a large amount of water during land preparation and the growing period, causing poor crop water productivity and lower net benefits. In wheat, excessive tillage operations delay its sowing, resulting in low yields and net returns. Dry seeding of rice and zero tillage in wheat can be expected to reduce water inputs and tillage costs compared with the conventional system of rice-whe...
متن کاملIntegration of Agronomic Practices with Herbicides for Sustainable Weed Management in Aerobic Rice
Till now, herbicide seems to be a cost effective tool from an agronomic view point to control weeds. But long term efficacy and sustainability issues are the driving forces behind the reconsideration of herbicide dependent weed management strategy in rice. This demands reappearance of physical and cultural management options combined with judicious herbicide application in a more comprehensive ...
متن کاملRice Allelopathy and Momilactone
Rice has been extensively studied with respect to its allelopathy as part of a strategy for sustainable weed management options. All available information indicates that rice plants possibly release unknown allelochemicals into the neighbouring environments. A large number of compounds, such as phenolic acids, fatty acids, indoles and terpenes, were identified in rice root exudates and decompos...
متن کاملEffect of Weed Management and Seed Rate on Crop Growth under Direct Dry Seeded Rice Systems in Bangladesh
Weeds are a major constraint to the success of dry-seeded rice (DSR). The main means of managing these in a DSR system is through chemical weed control using herbicides. However, the use of herbicides alone may not be sustainable in the long term. Approaches that aim for high crop competitiveness therefore need to be exploited. One such approach is the use of high rice seeding rates. Experiment...
